Yes, to sign in to guacamole there is a interaction with Google, even if it is just to redirect you to the third party social network. The signin widget is coming from Google and to be listed there, Google needs to add support for your social network/signin mechanism. Furthermore, the open social gadgets on the page are in a open social container hosted by Google. The container takes care of enforcing the friends connect security policies.

So Google sees:
- which friends connect sites you visit and how often/long.
- which gadgets you use on the site and how often but not what you do with the gadgets because typically gadgets talk directly to the third party server they are coming from via AJAX.
- how the gadget interacts with the open social container through the open social API (e.g. get friends, publish event, etc.)
- which friends you interact with through these gadgets, even if not on a Google social network

Effectively they get nearly as much info as Facebook gets from embedded facebook apps but on a far larger scale. The deal gets much more interesting if the website is also hosting Google ads. This allows for some really targeted ads based on your social interactions.

Interesting post, thanks. Am wondering whether this is Google's FriendConnect or whether it can be seen as an Open Social move. Who gets the data? If am an open social participating member, does Google get to see what happens between my members as it delivers the traffic to me from the guacamole or wherever site?
